Google Domain Registration : $10 a year?
By Loren Baker, Editor | December 15, 2006
Google has entered into the domain registration game via a partnership with eNom and GoDaddy, wherein Google is only offering the registration of .com, .net, .biz and .info domain extensions.
$10 a year is a bit more expensive than some of the other registrars on the market (by a dollar or so) and I find it interesting that Google is not going to be offering .org domains through these partnerships.
Perhaps the effort is one to set up a small business following, similar to Yahoo Small Business, with partnered domain registration, hosting, page building, blogging and directory listings programs.
Interestingly enough, a search for “domains” on Google results with Yahoo Small Business Domains as the #1 organic listing.
Google more or less has all of the offerings under their umbrella, and the domain registration should further benefit the spread and use of Google Webmaster Central.
And if the owners of the domains do not launch a site immediately, Google should also benefit from domain parking and the serving of their AdWords ads on unused yet registered domains.
The Associated Press adds : “Web sites that register their domains through Google will be automatically set up to work with several other company products, including e-mail, calendaring and instant messaging.”
