  • The House On The Rock

If you visited the Flintstones and the Rubbles in Bedrock, you would most likely have spent some time sitting on furniture made of stone. If you spent the night, you would most likely have spent the night on a rock bed. While that kind of furniture isn’t in today’s Warped site, I can sense a feeling that it is one where Fred and Barney would be right at home.

The name of the site is The House on the Rock. This house is a real, live, physical building located in Wisconsin. Begun in the early 1940s by Alex Jordan of Madison, it overlooks the breathtaking panorama of Wyoming Valley. The 14-room house, sculpted atop Deer Shelter Rock, is the original structure of what is now an extraordinary complex of rooms, streets, buildings, and gardens covering over 200 acres. A 375-foot ramp through treetops takes visitors to the entrance of the House where a bell gallery, waterfalls, massive fireplaces, and walls of rock can been seen. This is a self-guided attraction that is part of a recreation complex including two inns, a resort, and a world-class golf course.

While Betty and Wilma may not have been at home here, the tourists of today will find the site quite relaxing and with plenty to do. The Warp-o-Meter gives this site a 6.5 rating.
