Country Joe’s Place
By Lockergnome | February 16, 2007
“And it’s 1, 2, 3 what are we fighting for…”
Those are some of the best-known lyrics from a song at Woodstock. Today’s Warped site looks at the singer who sang them, and sees what he is up to these days.
The name of the site is Country Joe’s Place, and (as you guessed) it is the site of one Country Joe McDonald. As he says on the site:
“I’m Country Joe McDonald and this is my home on the Web. I’m a singer and songwriter, I used to be in Country Joe & the Fish, and I live in Berkeley, California.”
While he is best known from the song from Woodstock, Country Joe has had a successful music career. But he has interests that go beyond the field of music. His political stand is well known, and he has some of his opinions here. There are links to ecology, animal rights, a GREAT ’60s scrapbook, and (most interestingly) his tribute page to Florence Nightingale. There is extensive coverage “that” song, including several parodies, and links to YouTube to see some of the videos.
Whatever you feel about the ’60s and Vietnam, the times have changed, and the wounds are healing. This is a great site that looks at those times, with a little nostalgia, and educates all of us that the best lessons that we learn from history is to not repeat the mistakes of the past.
