Microsoft hits back in $1.5b Alcatel-Lucent MP3 lawsuit

Filed under:

Looks like it could be easy come easy go for Alcatel-Lucent in its $1.5 billion case against Microsoft over MP3 patent infringement claims. According to Microsoft, US District Judge Rudi Brewster in San Diego dismissed all AL’s applicable claims, meaning the March 19th trial date will be nixed. Not to worry for the cash-clutching lawyers once again caught in the middle of the clashing titans, however (remember, this isn’t the first time Alcatel’s sued Microsoft, nor is this the first time Microsoft’s been involved in an MP3 related lawsuit, nor is this the first MP3 lawsuit… this month), Alcatel-Lucent unsurprisingly plans to appeal Judge Brewster’s decision — which we’re sure will be further countered and rebuffed by Microsoft, in what is sure to be a multi-year feud that’ll put a few pools in yards and decks on houses of both sides’ legal teams. $1.5b isn’t nothing to snuff at, and now that the wheels are in motion, we think it’s best we all just step aside and watch this brakeless train pass.
