New GPS Technology for Tracking Children

Saturday, August 9th, 2008
by KC Kudra

You can accurately track where your child is these days with Global Positioning systems. GPS is the acronym for an increasing popular tool that parents are using to track their children at any given moment. Utilizing a number of satellites, GPS is known to help you get places, track-stolen cars, and the like. Growing groups of parents are also using these same technologies to keep up with their children.

Global Positioning technology allows parents to outfit their children with units that monitor their whereabouts. This offers parents increasing peace of mind as they work, and they are embracing this new technology more and more. As a result, it is becoming more part of the “mainstream” technology and readily available.

A diverse group of systems is being offered, all with potential benefits to users. Coming in everything from simple wristwatches, the GPS devices are relatively unobtrusive and easy for the child to wear. The only downside is that these wrist units while effective, offer greater risk of being lost or forgotten by children who are not used to wearing a watch on a day-to-day basis.

Cell phones are another GPS chip repository. These units are very popular with children and are less likely to be lost or forgotten at home. As a result, many parents are giving their children cell phones, which serve a dual purpose - allows the parent to call the child, and allows a child to be tracked.

One manufacturer has taken GPS technology to the next level offering a chip in a plastic sleeve that fits around the cellular telephone. While these are becoming more common, for very young children, the need to carry a cell phone may be confusing.

As a result, one manufacturer has begun producing bags, backpacks, and book bags that have GPS technology. Children naturally carry these things, so there is no confusion or chance for the child to lose it. They are extremely well suited to younger children, while the cell phone makes more sense for the older child who may not need to carry a book bag everywhere.

There are other things being developed including a simple necklace that has a GPS chip installed. Other ideas include charms and the like to keep up with children. GPS child tracking tools are being explored and ideas for things that fit a child’s lifestyle are an expanding business.

Any type of GPS tool will be effective when tracking and locating a child. One of the more important considerations when choosing a GPS device is its reliability and effectiveness. Price is also a consideration; however, when it comes to locating a child, most parents are willing to spend a lot to alleviate anxiety and stress.

After appropriate performance levels are established, it is essential, of course, to choose a product that matches the needs and tendencies of the child who will be tracked. Parents will want to make sure they choose a tracking device that fits the child lifestyle appropriately.

Laptop Computer Battery : The Life Of Every Laptop Computer

Laptop batteries are exclusively designed for every laptop model and make. Thus, the batteries required for a particular brand of laptop differ from batteries those that are used for other brands of laptops. The life of a battery depends upon the type of that battery. This means that a nickel metal hydride battery will have a shorter lifespan compared to a lithium ion battery.

Laptops are famous for their phenomenal power consuming capacity. This happens because these batteries must be small and lightweight so that they can be easily fitted in the laptop. A typical laptop battery lasts for about ninety minutes. This is a major problem because laptops are supposed to provide service even on the road or when moving. Using heavier and larger sized batteries can solve this problem.

One more factor that affects the performance of a battery is the temperature inside the laptop. A battery loses half of its power when working because of the temperature in the laptop that can reach the 45C mark. This happens because of the cell oxidation that takes place inside the battery. Cell oxidation is an irreversible process that is detrimental to the lifespan of a laptop battery.

All these problems cannot be solved in an instant. However, some precautionary measures can be taken in order to save time and money. Leaving a laptop in a car that is parked in the sun will result in battery damage and this situation must be avoided. Using the laptop in a cool room will result in increase in the lifespan of the battery. Lithium ion batteries are well suited for those who switch from a fixed power source to a battery on a regular basis. On the other hand, nickel based batteries are useful for those who prefer using the battery as a primary source for the laptop.

The most recent laptops use lithium ion batteries. Generally the life of a laptop battery is two to five hours, but if the laptop is being used very extensively, the life may get reduced to as little as one hour. The chemicals that are used inside the battery are usually degenerated when the life of the battery drops. It then needs to be replaced. Lithium ion laptop batteries can live long for one to five years. It depends greatly on the extent to which it is used.

Laptop manufacturers may still insist in their manuals that you buy only the same brand of batteries for your unit. But you may want to try some of the universal laptop batteries around that are compatible with most units. These lightweight batteries may even be cheaper compared to the established brands in the laptop business.

by Ray Lam

Are you looking for the cheapest laptop? Do research online to find the best deal. After looking you will discover the most common suggestion is check into a refurbished laptop that may be near equal to the latest laptop on the market.. Of course if you do not feel like buying a refurbished one you will have to search for the best deals for a new laptop. There are many deals popping up everyday on the internet.

Generally, you are going to want to have a computer that has a intel dual core and a lot of ram if you are planning on using multiple applications as well as software. If you are just getting a computer to check email and play on the internet then you might not need something as fast. In addition, there are even websites that you can get a free laptop.

You may find yourself in a situation where you have to look into a computer laptop rental. Your current laptop may have to be repaired, you may need a portable laptop for a trip, or you may need to hire extra temporary help at the office. Whatever the reason it is important to read a computer laptop review for rentals first. You want to research the company you will be renting from, read the rental agreement, and find out if the computer laptop rental will meet your needs.

EBay is also a great resource when you are looking for a deal on a laptop. Just be sure to check out the seller’s past history before making your purchase, as a laptop computer is a rather expensive investment.

You may also consider purchasing a refurbished laptop. In many cases, you can get a virtually new laptop computer with extra features and upgrades at bargain basement prices. However, be sure to get a warranty and to purchase an extended warranty if necessary.

It is important to read all the specs on the cheapest laptop you are interested in. It may seem like a great deal until you discover it will not be able to handle the demands of your business. You do not want to find this out after purchase. Buying more memory or returning the laptop can be costly and inconvenient. If you are unsure of your needs talk to a friend or colleague. They can be an invaluable asset and may be able to help you order the perfect cheapest laptop or computer laptop rental that may also be the least expensive. Paying more does not always insure that you are getting the best.

The Key Elements to Internet Marketing – A DIY Guide

Sunday, July 30th, 2006

by: Brandon L. WilcoxSo you have a website, and you want to increase your traffic to sell your product. There are thousands of the websites just like yours, so how will you be seen? There are basically 3 options. You can pay some company thousands of dollars to market your site for you; you can hire someone full time to do the marketing for you; or you can do the marketing yourself. This guide will give you the basic knowledge you need to market your website successfully at your own pace.

First, you need to have realistic expectations. Web sites do not get in the top 10 in search engines over night. There is a lot of hard work that needs to be put into a site for it to rank high. I would grab a pen and paper and write down your main competitors. Then I would use the Google Toolbar to check their pagerank and incoming links to see how they rank. The higher the pagerank and more links pointing to your site, the higher your site will be in the search engines. Once you see how many links are pointing to their site and how good their pagerank is, you have an idea how much work is needed to get your site listed.

Link trading is the process in which you will get these links pointing to your site. You need to contact other similar, good ranked pages and tell them how trading links will benefit both sites, and then link to them, and in exchange they will link to you. The more pages linking to you the better, but remember quality, relevant high pagerank sites is what your looking for, you want your link to be on a pagerank 2 site as least, preferably 3+. Managing your link exchange program takes time, some software on the market can do this for you, some of the software is good, some bad. I would recommend adding the links to your site manually to start, until you get a better understanding of the SEO world.

Articles are another good method to establish links to your site. Unlike a regular link exchange which is just a sentence with a link, publishing an article you wrote will give other websites quality content about your business / products and also link back to your site. Most article sites do not require a link back to them, so when your link is published search engines count that link better then a standard link exchange because you are not linking back.

One-way links is just that, a link to your site, but in return you do not link back. Articles are great one-way links, but so are directories! There are numerous directories on the internet ranging from shopping to home improvement. You can go to these sites, and either for free, or a small fee you can submit your site to them. Having your site listed in the major directories benefits your site in 2 ways. First, you get a link back to your site, increasing your link popularity, and second, people searching the directories for your product may see your site and buy from you.

As you can see, getting your site listed in the major search engines will take some time to do, you need to manage a link exchange program, submit your article to publishers and directories, and maintain your current website, but remember if you take your time, and establish your presence steadily over time, then your website will begin climbing in the search engines, and you will begin to enjoy the benefits of increased traffic.

Google’s Latest Acquisition

Sunday, July 30th, 2006

by: Matt DeAngelisFans of Google (including me), enjoy trying to figure out what Google is up to. In that spirit, I’m sharing some news.

Google has purchased a company called Upstartle, which makes web-based word processing software called Writely. Both Google and Writely had little to say in their blogs, other than the deal was done and Google is delighted to have the team on board. I went to look at both blogs this morning and they are absolutely jammed up, so I am unable to see what was written. I linked them for you so you can take a look when the heat is off.

When I read Google news I often grin, chuckle or laugh out loud. This one deserves a laugh out loud.

Google bought Upstartle because it wants to enable people to perform office tasks over the Internet. That’s a nice way of saying it wants to kick Microsoft’s butt, which makes me grin. I think kicking Microsoft’s butt is a good part of their strategy.

Money Magazine agrees with me, but thinks there’s more to it. Google has always expressed a desire to move from client (PC) based computing to Network (Internet) based computing. This basically means that only a little piece of the program you’re using resides on your computer (called thin client), and the rest stays on the server.

I’ve been hearing that thin client computing is going to take off like a rocket for twenty years now. Sixteen years ago when Larry Ellison of Oracle was pushing stripped down computers that used the network to work I thought it was a dumb idea, and I still do. At the time a powerful computer cost a couple of grand, and USB dongles that hold a gigabyte of data weren’t even invented yet (I don’t even think USB was invented yet).

The rationale then was that a cheap network computer that cost a couple hundred bucks could just hook up to the network and use its processing and storage power. Now a powerful computer is a couple hundred bucks, so who needs a stripped down version?

Besides, I want to control my own resources and files and software. I don’t want them sitting on Google’s big giant hard drive so they can use them to decide what kind of advertising to serve to me.

And that’s what Money thinks is the end game.

But competing with Microsoft is more of an afterthought for Google, which is contending with Wall Street’s high expectations for continued growth. Browser-based applications like Writely could feature Google’s contextual advertisements, a business which is projected to grow to $9.5 billion this year.

Listen to this:

For Google, which prizes the math Ph.D.’s it has on staff, the calculation is alarmingly simple. Google makes around $16 per user per year in advertising. There are more than 300 million Microsoft Word users today. If Google persuades some of those users to use its Web-based software instead of Word, and they spend more time using other Google tools as a result, Google could boost its per-user advertising sales. Even a $1 boost per user translates to $400 million in additional revenue.

I’m not sure I want to use a web-based word processor that sticks in ads based on what I type. Wait…I am sure. I don’t.

Jeez…with all of those eggheads gathered in one place over at Google, is plastering context ads all over a web-based word processing program the best they can come up with? I’m starting to smell one trick pony.

I hope I’m missing something, as I’m still not sure I understand what Google is trying to do, but it’s fun to watch. For more laughs I like to visit the Google Rumors website. You should take a look.

Even Dog Washing Businesses Have Websites

Sunday, July 30th, 2006

by: Jesse S. SomerIf you have a business and haven’t got a website on the Internet, you’re pretty much crazy. I don’t want to sound judgmental but you must be either really behind the times, or just plain scared to get yourself onto the Web. If it is the latter, the fear is an irrational one, having a website is only going to do great things for your life. Have you seen how many computers there are in the world today? Look at how much they’ve now been integrated into everyday human culture and society. Everywhere you go there are Internet cafes and computer retailers, people with mini-computers on the train, or laptops at the local park (receiving wireless broadband Internet). If you can’t see, hear, taste, smell, and feel the opportunity in having a website for every one of your potential customers to visit, you must be catatonic, drunk, or insane. If you truly do fall into one of these three categories, I’m really sorry, but if one day you do find a balanced state of life again, please check out the Internet and see what it is doing for people all around the world.

OK, let’s give you an example of how this works. Say you own a small dog washing business. You’ve got a good client-base built simply from an advertisement in the Yellow Pages and from people seeing your shopfront on the street. You make a good living, so why would you want or need to get a website? First of all, there’s nothing even remotely technical about washing a dog. Humans have been washing stinky canines ever since they started to breed them into the wide range of freaks that exist today (you tell me that a bulldog sitting next to a Chihuahua and a St. Bernard doesn’t mess with your head). The computer doesn’t help you scrub, people, it helps you to get more dogs to scrub. You’re probably thinking, ‘I’d be the only idiot alive stupid enough to think that I’d get any more customers by putting up a dog washing website on the Internet.’ Well, check these out, they are but a few of the multitude around the world that came up when I typed the words ‘dog wash’ into my search engine (Google): http://www.dogwash.com/, http://www.dogwash.net/, http://www.southbark.com/home.htm, http://www.dogwashnyc.com/, http://barebonesdogwash.com/, http://www.bugsie.co.uk/, http://www.petwash.com/main.htm, http://www.pet.net.au/rumpoles/dogwash.htm, http://www.dogwashing.com.au/ http://www.scrubadubdog.net/home.html.

You see, you’re not crazy to think it might work. Put simply, it does. Why would so many different people have put their dog wash businesses online? Check these sites out and see what they look like. You can get a pretty good idea of the many ways that you can construct your site, from the very simple to the quite elaborate. One point you might want to notice is how each site is totally individualistic. Websites are an opportunity to express your unique cultural approach to your business. For example, you might want to get the wealthier side of town to bring their pooches to your shop. What’s going to attract them? An intelligent site with an elegant atmosphere could be a start. Maybe you’d use gold or maroon background colours, high quality photos of super-clean dogs posing next to Rolls Royce’s and Ferraris, and have text that gives elaborate detail as to how far you go when you groom an animal- E.G. Doggie manicures and massage?

Maybe you want your site to be fun and friendly. You could put up lots of colourful images, plus photos of laughing kids having fun spraying foamy soap on both the dogs and all over themselves. You could put up an offer that if they mention your website when they visit in-person, both the dog and the kids get a special treat (hopefully not the same one!). Are you getting the message people? Having a website for your business gives you an opportunity to share more of your self and your creativity with your potential customer-base. It’s a chance to show them who you are, why you’re different from others, and why you’re the best place to go for that specific product.

The other main reason and the most obvious one to get a website is the fact that you’ll be able to cover a massively wider sector of human society than you currently get in contact with. Anyone who has access to a computer and who is interested in your area of expertise can find you through a simple search on the Internet. That’s how it’s done today, everything else is deemed old-fashioned. If we want to know more about anything at all in life, we plug in and connect to that ultimate database of information and communication. Two of the main reasons people use the Web is to find out about a business, or to advertise and share their own business with those who are searching for a service or product. If your luggage shop isn’t found online, let me tell you that there are droves of travellers who are flying by your shop for ‘greener pastures’. They simply don’t know you exist anymore; they’re going to the nearest shop with the coolest website.
